Hawkins for Governor Policies on Campaign Contributions
$44,000 in cumulative contributions is the maximum permitted by state Election Law for individuals, corporations, and Political Action Committees (PACs) for Governor (not counting loopholes like the LLC and party housekeeping accounts). The Hawkins campaign believes these contribution limits are far too high and enable the rich to buy politicians.
Accordingly, the Hawkins for Governor campaign is limiting the size of contributions it will accept to the federal campaign contribution limits of $2,700 for individuals and $5,000 for PACs.
The Hawkins for Governor campaign does not accept contributions from for-profit businesses (including proprietorships and partnerships) or from corporate-sponsored PACs.
The Hawkins campaign does accept contributions from the PACs of democratic people’s organizations, including labor unions, cooperatives, party committees, and peace, environmental, and community organizations.
The New York State Election Law requires us to report the name and address to the Board of Elections in our Campaign Finance Reports of contributors of $100 or more cumulatively to Hawkins for Governor.
We do not report names and addresses to the Board of Elections in our Campaign Finance Reports of contributors of a cumulative amount of under $100, which are reported as unitemized, without the name and address.
By law, contributions are not tax-deductible for federal, state, or municipal income tax purposes.
