Hawkins Releases First Video Ad

For immediate release: October 8, 2018

Howie Hawkins, the Green Party candidate for Governor, has released his first video ad of this campaign.

The ad is running on facebook and youtube and has received more than ten thousand views.

The ad is at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfPOaciXde0

The ad introduces Hawkins to voters, reviewing his history of environmental, peace, and labor activism for more than half a century. Hawkins was active in the anti-apartheid movement against South Africa; co-founded the Clamshell Alliance, which occupied the Seabrook nuclear power plant site and helped stop the construction of new nuclear power plants in the U.S.; and, more recently, helped to ban fracking of natural gas in New York and promoted a $15 an hour minimum wage.

Hawkins has been active in independent third party politics throughout his life and was a co-founder of the Green Party in the United States.

Hawkins finished 3rd in the 2014 gubernatorial race. Hawkins describes himself as the only progressive still on the ballot for Governor in New York. A Syracuse resident, he is a retired Teamster who used to unload trucks at UPS.

Jia Lee, a New York City public school teacher and progressive education reform advocate, is Hawkins Lt. Governor running mate.
