CORNING, N.Y. (WENY) -- With election day nearing one of the New York Gubernatorial candidates took his travels to Corning today. The Green Party representative stopped by Hakes Landfill and then to Market Street to present his agenda to local residents.

Howie Hawkins continues on the path of his campaign trail here in the Southern Tier. After his stop at the landfill, the Syracuse native made his way up and down Market Street hitting up as many businesses and restaurants he could. After politely greeting all who would hear what he had to say, Howie went into the key points of what he stands for including a big increase in solar and wind power, adding clean energy jobs, and working to stop fracking in the Empire State.

CORNING, N.Y. (WENY) -- With election day nearing one of the New York Gubernatorial candidates took his travels to Corning today. The Green Party representative stopped by Hakes Landfill and then to Market Street to present his agenda to local residents.

Howie Hawkins continues on the path of his campaign trail here in the Southern Tier. After his stop at the landfill, the Syracuse native made his way up and down Market Street hitting up as many businesses and restaurants he could. After politely greeting all who would hear what he had to say, Howie went into the key points of what he stands for including a big increase in solar and wind power, adding clean energy jobs, and working to stop fracking in the Empire State.

During a press conference today Hawkins told WENY, "If we wanted real economic development we'd go to 100% clean energy by 2030. We have helped draft a bill in the legislature called the New York, Our Fossil Fuels Bill."

"It would redevelop the entire state economy including the Southern Tier. That's the second problem. You see the debates and they don't talk about upstate. They don't talk about the depression here. We don't have good jobs, we have crappy jobs. The cost of living is too high, and our young people are leaving the state."

Hawkins went on further about fracking and the adverse effects it has had on some Pennsylvania residents , which he hopes Southern Tier and Upstate New York can avoid. He added, "You go down to Pennsylvania, and in some of those communities where they have fracked gas, I talked with people about what has happened to their well water. I have seen well water that became very cloudy with all this gunk in it."

"It didn't before they started fracking. So, you have to be concerned about the water. You have to be concerned about all these trucks going back and forth in your community. The sun shines, the wind blows, and the river flows. That's natural energy all around us. That's clean energy."

The race for NY Governor concludes on Tuesday,  November 6th.
