The Hawkins for Governor campaign is seeking a Downstate Field Organizer to be based in the New York City area
Immediate start date with an end date of November 17, 2014. Applications due Monday, July 21.
This is a part-time position, beginning with 20 hours per week, with opportunities to increase hours based on performance and campaign fundraising performance.
The Downstate Field Organizer will work under the direction for the State Campaign Manager to build the Hawkins for Governor campaign as needed. The DFO will be responsible for recruiting, training and coordinating campaign supporters/volunteers for campaign visibility and voter outreach in the New York City metro area, including Long Island and Westchester, building on relationships with established Green Party locals as well as recently formed independent campaign committees. DFO will work with campaign management team and campaign volunteers to develop and implement a field plan that will include voter registration, voter contact programs (phone banks, outreach canvasses), fundraising, media, constituent outreach, party and organizational development and campaign rallies. Field organizers will bear primary responsibility for execution of the field plan in the New York City area and will manage data collection and entry.
DFO will work with the metro NYC campaign committees to make sure they are informed of strategy and needs of statewide campaign. DFO will make sure that new campaign supporters are integrated into ongoing campaign activities (posting volunteer ops on website, social media, listservs, announcing meetings to Hawkins e-list and organizing phoning to meet volunteer needs). DFO will leverage presence of Lt. Governor candidate in NYC area. DFO will build enthusiasm for the Green Party among campaign supporters in order to support longterm party building for GPNYS in the NYC area.
Downstate Field Organizer will provide assistance to campaign fundraising effort as needed, including assisting with house parties, special events and phone banking under the direction of the campaign Fundraiser. DFO will provide assistance to other Green Party statewide candidates as needed and as directed by the campaign manager.
Among campaign activities DFO responsible for: GOTV rallies city-wide, mobilizing Hawkins supporters for 9/21 Climate March, developing Downstate GOTV plan (volunteer needs, priority polling places and visibility locations), identifying opportunities for campaign visibility like the NYC Halloween parade. NYC Field Organizer will also work with Hawkins campaign to develop a campaign presence on NYC college campuses. Outreach will also be conducted to targeting constituencies such as labor, socialists, women, African-American and Latino and others.
Qualifications
The Downstate Field Organizer must have a strong commitment to grassroots social change. Other qualifications include:
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal skills.
• Action-oriented.
• A proven ability to recruit and coordinate volunteers.
• Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people.
• Ability to work independently.
• Previous experience on electoral campaigns preferred.
• Bi-lingual a plus.
The ideal candidate will be committed to Green principles and passionate about radical social change. They should be a self-starter able to work independently while also accepting supervision. Must thrive in a fast paced environment, and stay calm under pressure.
Compensation:
• A modest, living wage hourly rate, staring $20/hour. More hours available based on performance and financial strength of the campaign.
