Cuomo's critics say the state has invested heavily at the expense of smaller projects, like water and sewer upgrades. Green Party candidate Howie Hawkins pointed to lead in Syracuse water as a result of old infrastructure. He says money can be spent now to hire more inspectors to test for lead.
“It's not rocket science,” said Hawkins. “It's something totally do-able. And it's the kind of improvement that could be done very quickly if we just put our minds to it.”

NY Gov. Cuomo Considers Working Families Party Endorsement

The party rejected a request from the Green Party to endorse its candidate for governor, Howie Hawkins. Afterward, Hawkins condemned the party, saying it “is nothing more than a political club firmly entrenched within the corporate-dominated Democratic Party.”
“Look at results, not the rhetoric,” Hawkins said. “They’ve now endorsed Cuomo three times. A quintessential corporate Democrat.”

BTF endorses Howie Hawkins for governor, recommends Cuomo for WFP line
BUFFALO, N.Y. — The relationship between the Buffalo Teachers Federation and Governor Andrew Cuomo hasn't exactly healed.
"I think that there's still resentment towards the governor because of his actions on the APPR testing, student testing," said BTF President Phil Rumore.
For the second consecutive election, the union has endorsed someone other than Cuomo. In 2014, it was Working Families Party candidate Zephyr Teachout.
This year, the union has endorsed Howie Hawkins from the Green Party.
"Howie Hawkins actually wrote for our endorsement and came in and did an interview and when the council of delegates got to vote, they decided that they'd voted overwhelmingly," Rumore said. "Look it, we're going to endorse him. The governor did ask for our endorsement, he did."

Howie Hawkins has become a familiar name on the gubernatorial ballot.
The Syracuse-area resident and Green Party candidate is taking up the charge for the third consecutive election cycle. He said earlier this year he preferred not to run again but admitted the party struggled to find someone else to lead the way.
